Dreamgirls

“Dreamgirls” is a Broadway musical which tells the story of an up and coming, 1960s girl group, and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune.
The musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called “The Dreams”, who became music superstars. It revolves around the era between the late 1960s to 1980s and tells the tale of the journey of ‘The Dreams’ with the main Protagonist Effie White (originally played by Jennifer Holliday, and then by Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 release).
The original musical, which first premiered at the Imperial Theatre on 20 December 1981, was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and won six. Twenty five years later, it was adapted into a major motion picture by DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures.
With music by Academy® Award nominee Henry Krieger and book and lyrics by Tony® and Grammy® Award winner Tom Eyen, “Dreamgirls” features a few unforgettable hits, including “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, “One Night Only” and “Listen”.
This highly sought after musical is now brought to Malaysia live at Istana Budaya from 14 to 24 July 2011 by Broadway Academy who has been given the full rights to stage “Dreamgirls” in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
